This Is The Best Book I’ve Read On Emotions
Helen Marie

There are a lot of books on emotions.

Many of them discuss how you react to emotions you have at any moment. They also talk about the best way to deal with them - such as with mindfulness, being present, or recognition of the emotion. I've read many different types of books on emotions.

The best book I've found which explains emotions is: How Emotions are Made by Lisa Feldman Barrett.

If you enjoy learning how your emotions are created, this is for you.

If you prefer to learn how to deal with emotions, you might find another book more valuable.

This book focuses more on how your body creates the feelings you have throughout the day, which are labeled emotions. Your body creates a physiological response in relation to what's going on around you. Those responses are similar in many situations, but it comes down to how you label them based on your context.

Emotions are created in the moment, not as a planned circuit.

There are many reasons to like this book, it:

  • takes a new approach to the creation of emotions

  • demystifies the reason we have emotions

  • talks about the science and provides practical examples of how it works in daily life.

  • breaks down how we use information from our past

  • clarifies how your brain predicts in each moment

  • discusses the physiological response you have in different situations

If you are at all interested in emotions and how they affect you in each and every moment, I can't recommend this book enough.

If you've read it, what are your take a ways? What other related books would you recommend?
