Startup Business Model Breakdowns

3y ago

Ahoy! Welcome to my Social Blog - the hub for all of my published digital writing.

πŸ’¬ Speech-to-text technology has enabled the creation of several unicorns.

Can text-to-speech do the same? πŸ—£οΈ

Murf.ai just raised $10M to try...

_

⏩ The TLDR

Instead of capturing audio and converting it to text, Murf does the opposite.

This reverse approach is an interesting contradiction to most voice AI companies.

The use cases shift from data analysis, translation, and conversation optimization to...

Content Creation

Imagine being able to create great audio content without speaking a word.

This might make extroverts sad, but as an introvert, it's an exciting notion.

Today's breakdown: Murf.ai

The Founders: Sneha Roy, Ankur Edkie and Divyanshu Pandey

πŸ‘€ Visibility | 2/5

♻️ Frequency | 2/5

πŸ“ˆ Size | 2/5

Limited initial size and frequency.

But both are growing -> emerging need for creators who weren't initially focused on audio.

I see potential pivots into large markets.

Very easy to use and quick time to value.

Their first magic moment is almost instantaneous.

Hearing my words in a British accent makes me sound smart.

The use cases are a bit broad, but it might not matter with their product-led approach.

They can get their product in front of customers...

100k monthly site visitors (most of it organic)

πŸ’Ί Armchair VC Take

I love the blue ocean approach.

Basically, they are taking a technology that has already seen adoption and are niching down on an emerging segment - Creators.

I think there is a nice business here.

Will there be unicorn-level growth?

This is really a bet on content creation trends. I think audio is part of it, but it skews video long-term.

πŸ’‘ My advice to Murf...

Find a video partner to make their product a no-brainer. AI-generated audio AND video feel like an unstoppable unicorn-to-be.

Otherwise, I'd start to position for acquisition by owning a creator use case end-to-end.

I am intrigued by the story of an agency using Murf to create an animated TV series.

Entertainment companies would be too.
