Knowing your readers is key to building your community of fans and increasing book sales. Here are some tips to help you figure out exactly who is reading your content.
#1. Identify your target audience's interests.
If you're writing books for moms, what are their specific interests? Are they working moms? Stay-at-home moms? Do they garden? Do they sew? Dig deep into getting to know all the interests of your readers.
#2. Understand how your target audience thinks.
Get inside their heads. What are their fears? What do they worry about? What are their constant nagging thoughts?
#3. Engage with your audience in social media.
Hang out where your people hang out! Try spending about 30 minutes per day engaging in conversations in social media circles where your target audience meets. You'll get tons of writing ideas!
BONUS TIP: Track and measure results.
If you're doing all this work, you need a system in place to help you track and measure the results of all this effort. You can use Google Sheets, Air Table, Notion, or any other cloud-based tracking software to help you keep up with your stats. Know what you're doing and track it, so you will know what's working and what isn't.
