You know you need to build your email list, but there's a lot of misinformation floating around.
Back in 2019, I believed that the only way to build a profitable email list was to build a huge email list. Then I made $15k in a month with only 168 people on my email list. Last time I launched a new program, I worried that I was emailing my list about it too much. Once I hit my revenue goal, I wasn't as worried.
Don't let misinformation and misguided strategy hold you back.
Myth #1: You need a huge email list to succeed.
Your success is not directly proportional to the size of your email list.
In my first job out of college, I managed an email list of 80k+ subscribers who were unengaged and uninterested in buying. This is a great example that engagement level is far more important than sheer numbers. A smaller, more targeted list with high engagement can outperform a larger.
Focusing only on your subscriber count is a vanity metric that won't get you far.
Myth #2: You should build your social media audience before starting to build your email list.
Instead, build them alongside each other.
As your social audience grows, so should your email list. And vice versa. Your social content is an important tool for getting people onto your email list, so don't wait until you have thousands of followers before you start that process.
Start building your email list from day 1.
Myth #3: Frequent emails annoy subscribers.
Correction: Frequent emails annoy subscribers...when they waste subscribers' time.
Celebrated online writer Nicolas Cole found that it takes him 26 emails to convert a new customer. Given that he's running multiple 6-figure businesses and has a massive following of loyal subscribers, he must be doing something right. If you open any of his emails, you'll see that they're all packed with value and are worth reading (even if you're not going to buy from him).
Worry less about emailing too much, and focus more on your email's content.
