In 1956, a manuscript containing stories of the 10 Guru's was discovered in the Panjab Public Library of Lahore.

It was believed to be written in the early 1700s. Woah! Dr. Kirpal Singh concluded that the text was authored by Kavi Kankan - a contemporary of Guru Gobind Singh Ji's darbar (court).

This was a huge discovery.

And this isn't the first time we've seen something like this.

In 1907, the "B40 Janam Sakhi" was discovered in a British Library. A huge treasure because we attained 57 and a half brilliant paintings and it further helped restrengthen, re-access, and validate the stories of Guru Nanak from existing granth-s.

The Sarbloh Scholar Discovers Another Poet Is the True Author of the Text

The Sarbloh Scholar has been busy.

He has been researching and studying Das Gur Katha, since it hasn't been discussed since Dr. Kirpal Singh brought it into the spotlight in his book from 1967. After Sarbloh Scholar's exhaustive research, he concluded that the Das Gur Katha was not written by the same Kavi Kankan of the 1700s.

The Sarbloh Scholar will give a detailed analysis of his research.

For now, he suggests it was written closer to the early 1800's by a different poet by the name Kankan.

Now, that doesn't mean it's any less valuable. It's still a puratan and precolonial text containing an unfiltered history of the 10 human-form Gurus. It's praiseworthy to have Gursikhs independently research our puratan granths in an effort to bring it to the forefront for young, English-speaking Sikhs like us.

When we say "unfiltered," we mean it!

Many modern edits of old texts tend to exclude specific parts. There are various arguments for this - perhaps even convincing arguments - but we advocate for complete transparency. The Sarbloh Scholar recovered a handful of scenes that were intentionally removed from the Dr. Kirpal Singh publication, as well as 49 lines from the katha of Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji.

A grand project that's almost ready.
