☠️ RIP Stock images ☠️ Follow this step-by-step guide to make your own "stock" images with AI, using Midjourney ✨

- The time has come to say goodbye to iStock, Getty, Unsplash, and the many stock photo sites that overcharge and underdeliver on photo authenticity.

- While it is still early and it takes some time, you can now create high-quality, authentic images for your next website, promo material, presentation deck, or whatever your project is, entirely with AI.

- Midjourney is currently the best generative AI imagery product out there. Here's how to dive in.

I'll also be following up with a video as there is a lot to get through 🎥

Here's a peek at what's covered in the detailed guide above. ⬆️ 👀

1. Create a Discord and Midjourney account. Sadly, Midjourney still needs to be accessed through Discord. I suggest reading this full getting started guide from Midjourney to get set up: https://lnkd.in/gDdZ2d5g

2. Prompt #1 in Midjourney.

Type the following, or whatever phrase you like:

/imagine a hipster working in a trendy coffee shop on a laptop

I always go pretty raw for the first round and just see what I get. It will give you an output of 4 images to choose from. Some will be terrible, some will be great.

3. Re-run

I will often hit the rerun prompt arrows immediately after the first result, just to see what else I might get. We're trying to find 1-2 photos that are in the right ballpark, we can then push on.

4. Remix

Now select an image that you like, upscale it, and hit Vary (subtle) and Vary (Strong). This will give you a total of 8 new images to choose from.

5. Remix again

At this stage, I've normally found an image I like, and it's just about tweaking. You can adjust the prompt to change the image in specific ways, just only do minor changes as it generally gets confused if you go too wild.

6. Upscale & Export

You're close to the finish line, now you can upscale the image to higher resolution and download the image from the Midjourney website.

7. Final tuning

Often, I just use the image as is from Midjourney, but sometimes it's helpful to do some fine-tuning in photoshop or figma to get it just right.

Note: This is not necessarily less work than just purchasing a stock image, as it can take some time to tweak an image to just what you want. But it is far less work than original photograph and you can genuinely tweak it to nearly any situation.

Let me know how you get on. I'd love to see any images that you create!

Happy generating! ✨
