The formula is straightforward. The two leaders need to be absolutely clear on the following:
Where they want to go,
When then want to be there, and
How they plan to do it.
Just like writing an essay, a well-defined destination gives the writer direction. It will do the same for business leaders as well. Every decision will be tested on whether it will move them toward their shared mission.
Without a clear mission, the joint venture is doomed to fail.
Working with other people is challenging enough. When the mission is not clear, every idea will look like a good one. All the opinions of your friends and family will be constant distractions. The only saving grace will be your mission statement.
It will be your filter to cut out the noise.
