What do I look for in a B2B content writer's portfolio?

I don't want to only see list posts or reviews. Explain a hard concept

✅ Quotes from SMEs or customers

Then I know you can talk to actual people. Or at least find the conversations.

✅ Research

Especially if you have an academic background and know how to actually find the real stuff

✅ More than marketing

A lot of writers pitch me on writing for my sites with like "best link building tips" and stuff like that.

Great, but that's the easiest thing for you to write about. If you wrote for another B2B SaaS company, then show me that. If you wrote about industrial manufacturing, then I know you had to do the research.

✅ Decent grammar

Everyone makes mistakes. Just don't make too many.

✅ An understanding of how content is published on the web

Paragraphs are shorter. Sentences vary. Bullet points are better.

This is different than the old J-school model, and your posts for organic search should reflect that.
