As I've been writing about intention, I see it everywhere.
Personal life, work, sports, and especially stories. A great story starts with clear intention. Every character is defined by it.
When we know the story intention, we understand the purpose and why characters act the way they do. Here's definitions of characters based on intent.
The Protagonist
Character with the central intention to the story. All other characters flow into and around this main path.
The Antagonist
Has the opposite intention of the Protagonist.
The Side Kick
This character's intention is purely to support the Protagonist path.
The Side Characters
Side characters intention is to create conflict by supporting or blocking either the Protagonist or Antagonist.
As I saw intention in stories, it helped me understand the true reason for intention.
Intention is the story.
It gives purpose. It is what drives actions of every character. Every conflict is anti-intention.
Behind every story is the author.
The author decides intention. The characters are defined by this central driving force. The entire story is built behind it.
The beauty of this: we are all authors.
