The Real Story Behind the Ethereum Logo
by juandav.eth

Have you ever wondered about the symbolism behind the Ethereum logo? Some say the octahedron represents the element of air and is linked to the heart chakra. Others see it as a mirror, a perfect reflection of itself, symbolizing how we are all reflections of one another.

But the real story? It’s far more simple and a lot funnier, according to Ethereum OG avsa.

In the subreddit r/ethereum avsa shared the anecdote. The logo started as a last-minute creation by Texture and Vitalik. They took two “summation symbols” (∑), rotated them 45 degrees, and boom! A diamond-like shape was born. Simple as that. No mystical meanings, just quick thinking and geometry.

After Ethereum’s presale, a bounty was offered for a new logo, worth 1 BTC. Richard Stott won this bounty with a design that was essentially a refined version of the original diamond symbol.

So next time you see the Ethereum logo, remember its humble, improvised early days. It’s a representation to Ethereum’s practical, get-it-done approach. Sometimes, the best ideas come from a bit of last-minute magic.

In the end, the Ethereum logo, much like the project itself, is about making things work. It’s about the essence of getting stuff done, not just the stories we craft around it.
