Today we're going to talk about states and how to occupy them. If you've struggled with understanding phrases like 'live in the wish fulfilled,' 'you already have what you want' or 'there's a version of you living the life of your dreams' then I hope this article moves you towards a clearer awareness of what they mean and how to apply them.

Neville Goddard taught the importance of occupying the state (assumed reality) of a person who has already experienced your fulfilled desire.

"You must occupy the new state consciously. You must become so familiar with it that it becomes natural to you, and you must persist in the new state until it becomes your dwelling place." - Neville Goddard, "The Power of Awareness"

We are always occupying a state and that internal state determines our life experiences. There are countless states we could choose to occupy, like changing clothes, and when we wear the new state long enough our outer world changes to reflect it. That's where the clothing analogy ends, mind you. Please don't wear the same outfit until you get your SP as I guarantee you doing so will only harm your chances of them wanting to snuggle up to you. Occupy the same state until it manifests, not the same pants.

Neville refers to it as our 'dwelling place' to differentiate it from somewhere we visit, although we may have to visit it on and off for a time before it becomes comfortable enough for us to call it home. We'll get to that a little later. For now, let's go back to the boss to hear about how 'living in the wish fulfilled' plays into all this:

"The assumption of the wish fulfilled is the means by which the new state is entered. By assuming the feeling of the wish fulfilled, you are mentally elevated to a higher state. This is the essence of success." - Neville Goddard, "The Power of Awareness"

So, we assume our wish has been fulfilled and we instantly enter the new state. A lot of people struggle to accept this, but it's absolutely crucial to understanding the process that leads to occupying a new state. Neville tells us:

"When you know what you want, you don't ask for it – you assume it. The moment you assume it, the thinking means are prepared and you enter the state of the wish fulfilled." - Neville Goddard, "Live in the End" (Lecture)

And....

"To desire a state is to have it. As soon as you desire it, you enter it."
- Neville Goddard, "Your Faith is Your Fortune

Try it now. Pick any desire and assume you already have it. It's done. You're in the new state. Feel good? Excellent, now stay in that state. That's how you do it, well done and have a great day.

Wait, what's that? Your outer world is still dumpster fire? Yes, I know...and so does Neville.

"Your assumption, to be effective, cannot be a single isolated act; it must be a maintained attitude of the wish fulfilled. Persist in the feeling that your wish is realized." - Neville Goddard, "The Law of Assumption" (Lecture)

And once more for luck...

"The more often you return to the assumption that you are what you want to be, the more natural that state becomes. Persist in assuming you are the person you want to be, and that assumption will harden into fact." - Neville Goddard, "The Law and the Promise"

It's between 'entering the state' (the moment you assume) and 'occupying the state' (when it feels natural, like a dwelling place) that 99% of people fall off the wagon. From discussions I've had with people struggling to persist, I'd say there are two main umbrella reasons people fail to occupy the new state:

Refusing to leave the old state behind (known as 'killing the old man')
Applying erroneous time limits to their manifestations

'When is it coming?'
'Why isn't it here yet?'
'I did SATS every night and all I got was this lousy t-shirt'
