I write about principles and life lessons that make you prosper in the Spirit, Soul and Body.

Gigabyte(GB) is the digital data storage unit. In the same way, we measure distance in KM, we measure digital storage in Gigabyte.

A gigabyte is a multiplication of bytes. We need to understand byte's physical appearance to understand Gigabyte's physical appearance.

Let's take a close look.

The Tangibility Of A Byte

A byte is a collection of 8 bits. A bit is the smallest digital storage, physically a wire.

The computer has billions of tiny wires(bits). A bit can be on or off, yes or no, 1 or 0. For instance, your light switch can be a bit because it can be on or off. A wire with electricity is considered one while it is regarded as 0 when there's no current, thus, making computers numeral (digital).

A byte is a group of 8 wires (bits) that can have an electric current (A.K.A 1) or not (A.K.A 0).

From Byte To Gigabyte

A gigabyte is a collection of 1 billion bytes or 1 billion wires.

I've explained the above using wires since it's familiar to you. However, other elements can be used to determine bits in digital storage.

If you can visualize the bit, you'll see the physical appearance of a Gigabyte.
