How the Birth of Moses Typified Jesus Christ
By Kamaro

Undoubtedly, Jesus Christ stands as the most influential figure to have walked the earth. His birth holds significance in the measurement of years and, above all, in the salvation of souls. God, in His unique actions, leaves indelible marks wherever He goes.

Another notable figure is Moses, who achieved remarkable feats, notably in inscribing the Ten Commandments—the cornerstone of over 90% of the world's constitutions, referred to as the “Grand norm.”

In Deuteronomy 18:15, Moses prophesied, "The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers—it is to him you shall listen." This prophecy finds fulfilment in Jesus Christ.

On this day of celebrating Jesus' birth, let's explore how Moses serves as a type for Jesus, as intentionally revealed by Bible authors.

Both Moses and Jesus faced unusual resistance at birth from powerful figures seeking their demise. Pharaoh and Herod, in the cases of Moses and Jesus respectively, ordered the murder of all male children aged two and under. This biblical parallel illustrates Jesus as the greater Moses, making Moses a type of Christ.

Both Moses and Jesus found safety in Egypt.

Examining their teachings, the five-fold structure of the Sermon on the Mount mirrors the five books of Moses, presenting Jesus’s sermon as a condensed version of the Torah, or in other words, summarising all laws.

Despite Moses typifying Christ, the writer of Hebrews emphasises that Christ surpasses Moses (Heb 3:3–4).

While God spoke to our ancestors through prophets like Moses in various ways, He now speaks to us through His Son, Jesus Christ (Heb 1:1-2). Hearing God is exclusively through Jesus Christ, the living Word of God(Rev 19:13). Today, you cannot hear God outside of Jesus.

Blessings arise from heeding God's voice, while the opposite is true for disobedience(Deut 28:1, 15). Today, the call to hear and obey the voice of God is needed more than ever. As you meditate on Moses’ writings, remember they are written as unified stories that lead to Jesus.
