In this essay, I will share some, but not all, job-related behaviors/ practices that lead to burnout, deep life dissatisfaction, and eventually depression.

How to burn out and start hating your work & life ๐Ÿคฌ

  1. Set the expectations and deadline far away from your comfort zone. Overpromise and do your best to deliver sacrificing relationships, etc.

  2. Forget about celebrating your minor/ small achievements.

  3. Never consider something as finished. It could be improved, couldn't it?

  4. Do not ask for help. Instead, spend the night learning things that someone could explain and teach you in minutes.

  5. Continuously think about your knowledge gaps and compare yourself to other experts.

  6. Never do one thing at a time. Instead, switch between tasks once they are dull or demanding.

  7. Prove or at least investigate that it is doable when someone says it is not.

  8. Other priorities are more important than yours, so start your work tasks just after waking up. Close the laptop or go to sleep only when coffee won't help you stay awake anymore.

  9. Do not rest! Listen to job-related podcasts while driving a car/running and prepare for certifications on vacation.

  10. Your job is your only hobby. Forget about other things you like.

  11. Consider all shitty tasks someone wants you to do as challenges! Agree on everything and engage in activities you don't like (team-leading/ project management/ marketing/ sales/ you-name-it).

  12. Work for free, blame your employee for it but do not give feedback to your manager.

  13. Tolerate unhealthy behaviors and toxic people. Do not act but expect things will get better.

What other behaviors would you add here?
