I will explain 2 principles at once. 2 birds one stone. Ready?
Hanlon's Razor explained by Feynman Principle.
What's the Feynman Principle?
The Feynman Principle states that when explaining or teaching
anything it should be as short and easy to explain as possible.
Adding jargon and complicating it only shows a lack of understanding
the core of the topic.
The aim is to be able to explain it to a kid, with regular vocabulary as
effective as you can.
Only when teaching you can understand your lack of knowledge and
cement your understanding.
I like the psychological and philosophical razors.
They are about cutting the extras that are not helpful from life
situations, to make it simpler.
The Hanlon's Razor - Do not assume malice from people when it can
be explained by stupidity or other causes.
Thinking bad about other's actions is not ideal, and most times it can
be explained by other reasons. (Incompetence, lack of information,
delays, carelessness).
This can cause you to feel stress or bad about others actions, as well
as think badly about someone else.
We as human default to pessimism.
If somebody forgets to invite you to their birthday party, you might
think they deliberately did so,
when in reality they might have forgotten about it or simply just be
careless.
If it can be explained in other way besides malice you should default
to that for your own sake, it will help you have better relationships.
Although it might not always be the case it is better than expecting
the worst from others.
What do you think?
It is an easy principle to apply in all areas of your life, it will help you
get peace of mind and see others with more compassion and take
things less personally. I personally find it very stoic.
