Essential eCommerce email sequences (part 6 of 10): Back in stock sequence
Kat Garcia

Supply chain issues are all over the place, and you may have visitors coming to your site for specific products that are out of stock.

So what do you do? Apologize and watch them leave?

Nope.

You're building a double whammy Back in Stock sequence.

Why a back in stock sequence?

Just because some of your items are out of stock doesn't mean you're out of luck—In this sequence, you're nudging the visitor to buy something while their original product of choice is out, and you notify them when the product is back. Double. Whammy.

What you'll need

Back in Stock Forms

  • If you have a large inventory and/or have access to a dev, you'll want them to add Klaviyo's back in stock snippet. Guide here.

  • Workaround: If you have a small-ish inventory you can set popups to specific product pages to signup for back-in-stock alerts.

Email Template

Use a similar template for all sequence emails so it's cohesive.

Use Dynamic blocks to personalize and make relevant recommendations: Dynamic Blocks Guide.

Coupon

Use a static coupon. Guide here.

Trigger

Trigger: Notification request.

Filter: Add a filter to emails with discount offers - must not be in flow in the last 30 days.

Sample sequence emails

  • Email 1 (5 minutes after trigger): Confirm they'll be notified when the item is back, and to apologize for the inconvenience, here's X% off to buy stuff that's available now.

  • Email 2 (when item is back in stock): Notify the visitor the item is back.

  • Email 3 (two days after email 2): Hurry before the item is out again.
