5 Ways To Stop Scrolling So You Don't Ruin Your Creativity
KB Kuravone

I'm not here to jump on the "TikTok rots your brain" bandwagon.

But science has shown that too much dopamine can ruin our natural creativity and may cause hyper-aggression and mental illness.

Yikes!

Scrolling is a massive dopamine hit that you can avoid if you want to keep your creative brain firing without frying. Let me show you how.

  1. The "Napoleon Dynamite Method":

Every time you catch yourself mindlessly scrolling, imagine Napoleon scolding you with his classic, “Gosh! Stop looking at stupid stuff and go do something productive!”

  2. The "Rubber Band Snap":

Wear a snazzy rubber band around your wrist and give it a good "snap-pop" every time you realize you’ve been scrolling too long. It’s a gentle (but slightly painful) reminder that real life is better than whatever's on your phone.

  3. The "Karaoke Challenge":

For every ten minutes you spend scrolling, force yourself to belt out a karaoke song or dance to a techno beat. The more embarrassing, the better. This not only gets you off your phone but is also a delightful little show for your neighbors.

  4. The "Screen Time Showdown":

Get your buddies involved! See who can spend the least amount of time on their phone in a week. Winner gets a beverage of choice and you can decide what the loser gets.

  5. The "Troll-A-Phone" Method:

Attach a small, scary or funny figurine to the back of your phone with double-sided tape. Every time you go to scroll, you’ll have to get past your phone's troll first. This is just a small reminder to help you direct your energy towards doing something more productive.

These suggestions may seem silly but the methods are sound.

Anything that can make you stop for even a split second and think can help you break a scrolling habit.

What do you do to stop scrolling?
