The Latest Ship30 Cohort Is Ending. Here's What Went Well and What Didn't.
Kevin Alexander

As I do every cohort, I thought I'd take a look at the goals I set on day 1, and how they went (or didn't).

Success to me will be a marked improvement in my writing.

Did that happen? Yes. With each cohort, I find my writing gets tighter, and (hopefully) more more engaging for readers. In the last cohort I was close to a subscriber milestone for my Substack. I cleared it. Same story this time.

That's (I think?) 3 in a row now.

More importantly, engagement, click rates and paid subscriptions have markedly increased. I don't see these as vanity metrics so much as a validation of my project.

The real value proposition for these voyages is making connections. I want that to continue.

Did it happen? Nope.

When it comes to making connections, this might've been my worst cohort yet. I don't think I logged into Circle more than twice? No rapid-fire intros, either. If I'm honest, I was busy working on other stuff- using skillsets learned in previous cohorts.

Compounding on lessons from previous cohorts.

I wanted to pressure test some of the building blocks of Ship 30. Specifically, repurposing content, optimizing my Twitter bio, and "writing once, posting multiple times."

Did it work? Yes. Though this time it was more about writing/formatting content and pushing the boundaries of what I consider "good" writing.

What's next?

Round 10, of course! See ya at the dock!
