Like most beginners, I made many mistakes when I started working in Product Management, creating products for virtual communities and Edtech.
But this was the biggest one, by far:
Delay launch date
Here's what happened:
As a rookie, I wanted things to be perfect. Dealing with impostor syndrome, a new role, and new processes got me through a spiral strategy trying to tweak every detail on an MVP!!
Instead of focusing on validating the idea and iterating, I just made it as robust as possible. Luckily for me, it finally worked, but it cost the team weeks of frustration and decay in trust that we had to rebuild from almost zero.
That mistake taught me a ton. I don't overthink things trying to control the outcome. Instead, I trust the team, the MVP and our ability to pivot or drop it down when the time comes.
Now, I don't see mistakes as a flaw but as a natural part of the process. And I find myself encouraged to fail when the stakes are low instead of high.
I hope you all do the same 😊
