5 (Easily Fixable) Mistakes To Avoid: For Becoming a Skillful Meditator
By @ LeoPras

Meditation is an amazing practice, but it’s easy to make some common mistakes that can trip you up.

Let’s chat about five small but easily fixable mistakes people often make when meditating. if you can avoid these, you will reap its benefit exponentially:

Mistake 1: Expecting Immediate Results

Wanting instant results can make you frustrated and cause more anxiety during meditation.

You can’t free your mind easily when you’re expecting something specific from meditation. This prevents you from achieving a meditative state

Fix: Be patient and stick with it. Meditation is a journey, and the benefits will come with time.

Mistake 2: Forcing Your Breath

Trying to control your breathing can make you tense.

People often try to control or disturb their breath when focusing on it, which can cause anxiety and frustration when it doesn’t flow naturally.

Fix: Focus on the sensation where your breath touches. You can choose a specific point to focus on, location point, which helps you avoid disturbing your breathing.

Mistake 3: Comparing Yourself to Others

It’s easy to look at others and feel like you’re not doing it right. This can make you doubt yourself.

Fix: Focus on your own practice. Remember, meditation is personal, and everyone’s experience is different.

Mistake 4: Meditating in an Uncomfortable Position

Sitting in an uncomfortable position can be a big distraction. If you’re not comfortable, it’s hard to concentrate.

Fix: Find a comfy position where you can stay alert and relaxed. Use cushions or a chair if you need to.

Mistake 5: Setting Unrealistic Expectations

Having high expectations can lead to disappointment if things don’t go as planned.

Fix: Approach meditation with an open mind and no specific expectations. Let the practice unfold naturally and accept whatever comes up.

Remember, meditation is a personal journey, and these tweaks can help you stay on track to mindfulness and inner peace.
