Just a corporate girl who believes in the magic of side gigs; I love helping full-time pros find their hustle groove and I also write about practical ways to kiss burnout goodbye.

Careers Are Not Straight Lines
Lexy Michelin

When I was little, I dreamed of being a fashion designer for Barbie dolls—I was obsessed with sewing tiny, elaborate outfits.

Fast forward: I studied Public Relations, ended up as a spa consultant, then pursued a master’s in Spa Business Management.

Yet somehow, a decade later, I found myself in the HR tech space—and I’m still here.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned?

Careers aren’t straight lines; they’re squiggly, unexpected, and full of plot twists. And that’s what makes them exciting.

The concept of "squiggly careers," a modern take on non-linear career paths, emphasises embracing change and variety, rather than adhering to a straight-line trajectory, as coined by Helen Tupper and Sarah Ellis.

The idea is to focus on finding roles that align with personal values and bring satisfaction, rather than adhering to a rigid path.
