How a Zettelkasten helps me organize information and create new ideas
Lola 🧪

I've been using a modified Zetellkasten method in Notion for the past few months, and it has helped me draw connections between the content I consume and think of new articles, ways of working with clients, products, etc.

But first, What's a Zettelkasten?

Zettelkasten is short in german for "note-box," and it's a personal tool for thinking and writing that creates an interconnected web of thought. It can be physical or digital.

I loosely follow the following process.

1/ Organize all of your thoughts on a topic

In my Zettelkasten, I use the gallery view in Notion and create a "card" for each topic. Each card is essentially a brain dump on a topic, and they range from things like my life principles to learnings from online courses. If I'm on the go, I'll use my notes app to quickly capture a thought and then input that to the appropriate card at the end of the day.

2/ Review the notes and make connections to other cards

I'll comb through recent cards and make connections once a week. I have category and connections fields on each card. When I review a card, I'll list all the related categories and use Notion's tagging feature to @ any associated cards.

3/ Review connections and decide which you might explore further

Once I've spent some time making connections, I'll take a look at all the links (ex: all the pieces of content I've consumed that have an atomic framework or all cards). If it resonates with me, I'll decide to slate it as an article, business, or product idea I might test later.
