Origin story: when I was 10, I was stuck, experiencing:
• Self Doubt
• Resentment
• Fear
18 years later, I’m here now.
I decided that life was too short to let those feelings define me.
Here’s what this journey taught me about success for engineers:
🧵👇 #Ship30for30
Lesson #1: People will judge you.
Everything seemed fine on the outside, but I felt constant pressure to be "perfect."
Now, I pursue what makes ME happy.
The only difference between the two is how I value myself.
Lesson #2: Expectations are a waste of time.
Growing up, I expected others to like what I did even if it made me miserable.
Today, I work hard for myself and expect nothing in return.
You will go further in your career if you give without expecting anything in return.
Lesson #3: Fear comes from new experiences.
I battled with constant fear. Fear of failing others. Fear of getting hurt. Fear of everything.
I still experience fear, but I can understand how to react to make progress.
Shift your mindset from fear first to grow first.
Lesson #4: Make stress your friend.
As a former D1 tennis player, stress was a daily occurrence, but I didn't know how to handle it well.
Stress comes in different forms. The faster you realize how to manage good stress, you will go further in life.
Lesson #5: Believe in yourself.
People constantly told me how bad I was at tennis and didn't believe in my dreams.
I am now a Hispanic engineer teaching others how to make the most of their careers.
If you don't believe in yourself, no one will.
TL;DR - 5 lessons I learned changing from being harsh on myself to elevating my abilities.
• People will judge you.
• Expectations are a waste of time.
• Fear comes from new experiences.
• Make stress your friend.
Believe in yourself.
