3 Steps To Get Started On Your Legal Tech Job Search and How To Build a Targeted List of Companies

Are you interested in working for a #legaltech startup? If so, you might not know where to start. Legal tech is HOT, HOT, HOT! πŸ”₯πŸ”₯πŸ”₯

According to data from Tracxn, there are over 9.19K legal tech companies. In 2024, 124 legal tech companies were founded, and there was over $2B in funding!

I often get contacted by people who want to break into legal tech or advice on where to start researching companies. Last year, I helped six people land roles in legal tech!  

So, if you are trying to get a job in legal tech, here are three steps to get started:

Step #1: Determine the legal technology that interests you. Browse legal tech resources to explore the various categories of legal tech and what interests you.

Step #2: Use these resources to do your research: Visit each of the websites below to learn about the vast scope of companies, their mission, values, product offerings, and customers. Each profile has a link to the company website. From there, you can go to Careers to view CURRENT OPENINGS! 

  • LawNext Legal Tech Directory has companies organized by 79 categories of legal software. The profiles include press, features, learning resources, reviews, and videos. The Resources section offers analyses & trends, buyer's guides, product demos, and technology overviews to help you learn more.

  • Legaltech Hub offers solutions organized by topic. The profiles provide areas of use, target audiences, articles, product details, videos, and robust filters to help narrow your search. 

  • Legaltech Jobs is an additional resource that has current job listings and a job seeker signup form where you can submit your resume.

  • The LegalTech Fund (TLTF) is a venture capital firm seeking to invest in legal technology. The fund currently has 61 companies in its portfolio. TLTF also provides a job interest form you can fill out.

  • Above the Law's Non-Event is a resource that provides 13 "Buyer's Guides" and a Legal Tech Directory. Each guide provides detailed product overviews, making them an excellent resources for learning more about the product offering and the latest developments and updates. 

Step #3 Build Your Target List: Use a spreadsheet or Notion to list all the companies you are interested in, the product offering, location, link to the job posting, and any other notes you've captured. This will help you prioritize who to target for your outreach.
