At age 4, Richard began reading Harry Potter.
At age 5, he read the newspaper each morning. He especially loved the sports page, memorizing all of the stats for his favorite baseball team, The Tampa Bay Rays. He would recite these stats to anyone who would listen.
At age 8, he tought himself to solve the Rubik's Cube. Soon he was able to complete it in 19 seconds!
This was when I first realized that he was just as bright as his Mom! 😉
Earning straight A's all through school, in 2014 he attended Princeton University. His degree was one of the most challenging at Princeton, ORFE. Operations Research, Financial Engineering. He also played starting Center for the Ivy League Champion Tigers.
2018. Upon graduation, he accepted a demanding position in Manhattan at BlackRock, and he loved it!
2020. COVID. The world changed. Axis tilted. Boom. March 2020, announcement everyone must work from home. June 2020, working from home extended. His lease was up in NYC, and he called to say he was moving back home to Tampa! Why pay rent? No commuting. No chores. Someone to cook for him. I was beyond thrilled to have him back home.
The biggest plus, more time for creativity!
November 2020. During our nightly dinner conversations, Richard shared his greatest idea perhaps ever! Enter Ship30for30. I only wish I had recorded his excitement when he first told me about it.
At first, Richard developed Ship30for30 as a side-gig. He was bored. Covid kept anyone from going out. He would work on it evenings and weekends, only. His position at BlackRock was always his priority.
Ship 30 was like adding football to his already rigorous acedemic schedule. He was doing two things at once, both of which he absolutely loved! He soon partnered with Cole and things really took off!
Fast forward to 2022. Everyone still working from home. In Feb BlackRock decided all must be back working in the offices in March.
After much consideration, and a huge deep breath, Richard decided to take the leap and leave BlackRock. Ship30 would now be his full-time gig!
A zillion other ideas are working their way to the surface. I cannot wait to see what's next.
