A marginless schedule is a fast way to burn out.

It's a quick way to alienate your family, lose touch with friends, and lose your creative spark.

Adding margin is simple - not easy. It's a counterintuitive slow down to go fast paradox. But, it's worth the effort because you'll be able to live in the moment and be less worried about what's coming up next. Unfortunately, many people don't.

Adding margins will clarify important tasks, bring back your creative spark, and restore relationships.

Here's how:

Step 1: Add buffer time whenever switching tasks

Without buffer time (margins), you'll constantly be robbing time from one activity to give it to the next, which makes it feel like you're always running late. When I started blocking buffer time between tasks, I was present for each task and less stressed when moving from one task to the next.

Step 2: Calculate your available time

Work generally expands to fit the time we have.

Creativity loves constraints. And, when working within your available time, you'll find your creative spark returning.

Step 3: Be present

If you've blocked time in your calendar to spend time with friends and family - you can do that - guilt-free. And, because you've included margins, you'll feel less stressed and able to enjoy the entire time you have set aside for them.

Blocking your calendar, adding margins, and being present to accomplish what you've set your intention to do during a specific time, will make it feel like you've got more time, and you'll be less stressed.
