It seems like every year there are more and more games that get put out.

It can sometimes feel difficult, especially in the indie space, what are the hidden gems to keep an eye out for. That’s why in this list, I want to share with you a simple list of a few notable indie games you should keep an eye out for for a release date (Disclosure: Some of the games don’t actually have a release date, but will likely show up in 2023 if not 2024).

Here is my list of all indie games I think should be on your radar:

Through this article, I’ll give a brief description about the game and why its release should be on your calendar.

Hades 2

Although we have limited information beyond the announcement trailer, my excitement for the game has not waned. For those unfamiliar with Hades, it is an isometric hack-and-slash roguelike game that boasts impressive artwork, music, and engaging gameplay. This time around, players assume the role of Melinoe, Zeus' daughter, in a game that emphasizes the use of magic and dual-wielding weapons, adding another layer of complexity to an already stellar franchise.

Despite the scarcity of details, the game appears to offer more of what made Hades great, while also introducing new gameplay elements to enhance the experience.

Mina the Hollower

Mina the Hollower is an upcoming adventure game by Yacht Club Games, the makers of the beloved indie series, Shovel Knight. Inspired by Zelda games from the Gameboy era, this game promises to be as expertly crafted as its predecessor, featuring Mina's unique burrow ability. By burrowing underground, players can avoid enemy attacks, navigate various platforms by launching themselves out of the ground, and dodge incoming projectiles. Mina also uses a whip to deal damage and replenish health via a yellow bar. Players can replenish their health using a flask, which works similarly to Dark Souls.

Although the game is still in development, we can expect to see more of it in 2023.

Earthblade

Earthblade, created by the developers of the critically acclaimed platformer, Celeste, promises to deliver an even greater depth of story and exploration. While the game retains the beloved platforming mechanics from Celeste, it introduces a unique combat system set in a Metroidvania-style world. The game's stunning graphics and breathtaking music are a feast for the senses. The only drawback is that we have to wait until 2024 to learn more about its release date.

With its ambitious scope, Earthblade has become one of my most highly anticipated games of 2024.

Brotato

Although I initially dismissed Brotato, a top-down arena rogue-like game that has been in early access for some time, I soon realized how wrong I was. Despite the game's seemingly repetitive loop of fending off waves of enemies, buffing yourself, purchasing new items and weapons, and repeating the process, I was pleasantly surprised by its intricate mechanics and the ability to create outrageously amusing builds. In fact, the game encourages players to discover the most absurd and entertaining builds that make them feel invincible.

Brotato is currently available on Steam and iOS, with a Switch release in the works. It makes for an ideal mobile game to play for hours.

Tiny Rogues

Tiny Rogues, a game I discovered through Northernlion's stream, offers a simple yet engaging rogue-like experience. With its Atari-inspired graphics, the game challenges players to fight through rooms of enemies and defeat every foe in their path. With several unlockable classes, each with their unique loadouts, and a vast array of items to discover and synergize with, Tiny Rogues offers hours of entertaining gameplay.

Although the game may not have achieved widespread popularity, I consider it a special game because of my personal attachment to it. While I'm unsure if the game's full release will garner greater attention, I believe it's important to include Tiny Rogues on my list due to its memorable and enjoyable gameplay experience.
