Getting to a flow state means intense concentration. Eliminating pings and dings can get you there.
You know what I am talking about. In my work every day is different and interruptions are common. However you owe it to yourself to get rid of these and trigger a flow state for ultimate concentration and productivity.
Even if it's for a short period of time at first. You can work up to longer periods.
In a previous post I mentioned one of three tips: Turn off the phone the email notifications, every ping that could possible distract you.
Easy, right? Do you feel the FOMO already setting in?
Years before smart devices and phones people were actually productive. You made a phone call and left a message waiting for a response that might come in hours, days or even weeks.
It was ok. Really. We waited.
Try turning off you phone for 90 minutes. Turn off your email notifications for the same period. Put on some headphones and listen to music (I recommend one with no lyrics otherwise you will be singing along), and dive into your task.
There are very few jobs short of a first responder that requires immediate response. You are not that important and the messages you are receiving that beg for quick response aren' either.
Someone once complained that I don't respond in a timely fashion to their texts and voice messages. I reminded that individual that the device was for my convenience, not theirs.
You will find creating this space of time that you dive into a state of consciousness called flow. It's a state where you are at your best and you feel your best doing it.
Now that you have read this, turn off your phone. See you in flow.
