I've been reading stoic philosophy for the last couple of weeks and I love it.
I started with Ryan Holiday's book "Daily Stoic", then I was hooked and kind of went into the rabbit hole of finding quotes.
Here are some of my favorite ones which I have stuck on my wall :
#1 “When you arise in the morning think of what a privilege it is to be alive, to think, to enjoy, to love…” - Marcus Aurelius
It's so easy to get lost in the hustle as a solopreneur and forget about what you have achieved so far.
It helps me to take a moment to be grateful for the small (yet most important) things in my life.
#2 “No person is free who is not master of himself.” - Epictetus
Probably the most important thing as a self-employed person is to discipline yourself.
From my experience, the more Disciplined I am, the better I feel about myself.
#3 “We suffer more often in imagination than in reality.” - Seneca
This is for my overthinking friends out there(including myself).
Anticipation is always worst than the actual situation, so sometimes it helps to write down your thoughts to realize it was a waste of time.
#4 “Associate with people who are likely to improve you.” - Seneca
You're the average of 5 People you surround yourself with.
Invest in finding good relationships and like-minded people who are likely to help you grow.
#5 “It never ceases to amaze me: we all love ourselves more than other people but care more about their opinion than our own.” – Marcus Aurelius
Did someone order a thick skin? Only if we could buy it online, we would have it by now.
But it's not as easy as it sounds.
It takes some practice, some action, and a pinch of relentless mindset to develop a thick skin but in the end it is worth it.
