That's how Salvador Dali became one of the most successful artists ever.

The Salvador Dali Rule states that when we focus on becoming prolific creators instead of being chained to perfection, the fear of failure eventually dissipates, giving us more opportunities to succeed.

Salvador Dali produced over 1500 paintings in his lifetime. He also designed theater sets and costumes, illustrated over 100 books, made thousands of drawings, and even collaborated with Walt Disney.

Dali was always practicing and creating. He took this habit even to avoid paying the bill at a restaurant. The artist drew on the cheque’s back, and since most people wanted to own an original Salvador Dali drawing, he would get out of paying the bill.

As brilliant as he was, he did not strive for perfection. His goal was to be a prolific creator.

“Have no fear of perfection. You’ll never reach it.” –Salvador Dali

It’s a simple rule—don’t be perfect, and create something every day.

If you’re a writer, then write. Give yourself a minimum number of words.

If you’re a painter, then paint. Set deadlines for yourself. You will finish a painting in X number of hours or days.

If you’re in sales, then sell. Make 100 phone calls a day or post pictures of your product or service on Instagram or Facebook.

Don’t try to be perfect because you know perfection is for failures, and you are not a failure.

Some days, you’ll write like a third grader, a customer will slam the door in your face, or what you create will be unadulterated crap.

That’s okay. Tomorrow or the next day, it won’t be. But if it is, that’s okay. You’ll start again the next day.

Your job is to show up daily and create. That’s it.
