What's ahead for the future of Organizational Psychology?
IO Psychologists deal with many aspects of employment, especially job analysis.
Complex organizations provide their goods and services through highly skilled employees performing the work.
Job analysis provides clear job descriptions for these employees, and enables career development, performance appraisals, selection of new employees, and training to enhance skills related to the job.
Many of these issue will continue to remain a central part of IO Psychology, according to Professor Gary Latham from Toronto's Rotman School of Management.
Latham believes that questions about selection, performance appraisal, performance management will be evergreen areas in IO Psychology.
Additionally, Professor Latham sees a changing workforce through two lenses:
- AI leading to larger unemployment in low level jobs
- mass migrations across the globe leading to even more diversity in the workforce.
Overall, Professor Latham believes that this diversity will be a benefit to organizations who can channel it into an innovative organizational culture.
