Alex Hormozi changed the background on his phone from “Just Win” to “Win Slow.”
We’ve all been told: Hustle harder, speed wins, grow faster.
But what if the real key to success was to slow down?
There was a study done with mice:
Two mice were dropped in water to see how long they could swim before giving up.
The first mouse was dropped in the water, swam for about 30 minutes, and died.
For the second mouse, things changed slightly. It was also dropped into the water, but before the 30-minute mark, they pulled the mouse out, gave it a short break, and then put it back in the water.
The result?
Mouse #2 swam for 16 hours—over 30 times longer.
Why?
It believed rescue was just around the corner. It believed that the hard times would end.
We’re all like that second mouse.
The lesson here is powerful: when we think there’s light at the end of the tunnel, we can push through hard times and keep going much longer than we thought possible. It’s the belief that we’re almost there that keeps us going, even when things get tough.
If you’ve ever ridden a horse, you know what happens on the way back home—when heading toward the barn. A slow, distracted horse will perk up and move with a spark.
It helps me to remind myself: nothing hard will last.
You will either:
- Give up.
- Finish the job.
- Get a helping hand.
So how can you “win slow” in your own life and business?
1. Prune. You have to trim a tree in order to see its full growth potential. What can you cut?
2. Accept the seasons. You can’t have a baby in one month by sleeping with nine women. Understand that some things take time.
3. Bank on patience. Use the downtime wisely—prepare the systems, lay the groundwork, and let the growth come naturally.
It’s easy to want to sprint to success, but the real game-changers know when to slow down and let compounding take its course.
