There's one huge benefit of becoming an ambidextrous bartender that nobody really talks about--and it has nothing to do with working faster.

Favoring one side of the body can cause repetitive stress injuries, which can make bartending a painful experience

In the very worst cases, these injuries can lead to missed work.

Becoming ambidextrous can help prevent these nagging injuries by creating balance in the body.

So how do you become an ambidextrous bartender?

Early in my bartending days, I found that only using my weak hand (my left hand) on slower days helped me achieve this.

I made it a game to use only my weak hand whenever possible, and after a few weeks, working left-handed became second nature.

The obvious benefit of becoming an ambidextrous bartender is gaining speed and efficiency.

However, the unexpected gift you receive is better balance in your body, which leads to longer periods of pain-free work.

If you're a bartender, invest some time into strengthening your weak side, so you can work faster and healthier.
