I write to help professionals with many passions and a need to learn find more clarity, time and joy around them.

Kobe Bryant was one of the greatest basketball players of all time.

• 5-time NBA champion

• Youngest player to win 3 championships

• Oldest player to score 60+ points, one game: (37 years, 234 days)

• Most points scored in a game in the modern era of basketball (81 points)

I am fascinated by Kobe’s career and mindset.

So I read his book “The Mamba Mentality” (twice!).

Here are the golden nuggets:

1. To become great at anything, you need craft

2. To learn the craft, you have to find inspiration in those better than you

3. To reach your life's goal ("to be the best player possible"), you need a process

4. Injuries and other obstacles always happen - you have to adapt quickly to stay in the game

5. To become the best version of yourself, surround yourself with people who make you "better, stronger, and more prepared"

And probably the least known:

6. Basketball teaches you creativity - Kobe won an Oscar for a short film "Dear Basketball"

The main takeaway from this masterclass on greatness?

Your goal should not be to beat others. Instead, you should be more concerned with your process and craft.

Then, and only then, will you follow in the footsteps of the most impressive NBA player and leader ever.
