I bet you are tired of canned responses and tired narratives in your gaming entertainment, aren't you? If you're a developer yourself, I can guarantee you spend a lot of time, energy, and resources to ensure that you do not deliver a boring pre-packaged game. Well, I've got some good news for you; the future is coming. It will not be long before we can all experience dynamic, engaging narratives in our game worlds and supply them to our players.
Exciting right? Let's dive in.
NLP enables dynamic dialogue with the same meaning:
"Those no-good gobblers are at it again; I want you to go over there and show them who is boss!" - Man in a straw hat
"The goblin-kin are likely responsible for our troubles as of late; please find a way to deter them from further violence!" - Nobleman
Given the proper training and information about the character's personality, NLP can create dynamic dialogue ready for any context.
NLP can decode context:
For example:
The player exits their spaceship, notices that it needs repairs but doesn't have the currency to pay for the repairs.
The NPCs around the character notice what the players are doing; they all receive the same "story" of the last set of actions they witnessed from the player.
Now the NPCs using NLP can use this context while offering up their quests/actions or whatnot.
For example, seeing that the player character is in dire need of expensive repairs, dynamic personality-driven characters may prompt with "Your ship made quite a racket when landing, that sound I'm sure is that your turbo laser ballast needs a complete overhaul. I used to work on turbo lasers years ago, I can fix it for you, but I need a favor."
NLP will change what game types are possible:
Right now, we experience worlds in the form of predefined stories or in relatively shallow open-world scenarios that do not dynamically change much based on our actions. But storytelling, as always, will vary with the available technology. Being able to concretely communicate the scene's context between the player and all of the NPCs in the world will be a game-changer.
These examples are just the beginning
Imagine as a game developer placing an NPC on a map with a specific personality and knowing that it will automatically offer dialogue and quests to your players.
