I love helping my clients transform their relationship with money.
But it requires the right mindset and strategies.
(A lot of common advice out there is misguided, unfortunately.)
If you are at all interested in creating a healthier, more empowered relationship with money, here are the 3 most valuable lessons I've learned from working with clients:
1. Clarify your vision and use math to map the path
The foundation of a strong financial life is having a clear vision of what you want to create. I guide my clients to get specific about their aspirations. Then, we use the numbers to reverse-engineer a step-by-step path to get there. As I like to say, "The vision and the math create the path." When you know where you're headed and have mapped out the route, you can move forward with confidence.
2. Focus on requirements more than the "how"
When clients set bold money goals, they often get stuck on the "how" - how will I possibly achieve this? I've found it's more empowering to focus first on the requirements. We dig into what reaching the goal will require of them mentally, emotionally, strategically, and practically. This helps my clients own their agency. They start thinking, "What can I do to become the person who achieves this?" instead of just "How could this ever happen?"
3. Have money conversations in the right order
One of the most transformative exercises I lead clients through is a series of money conversations in a specific order:
First, we discuss their vision openly without constraints
Next, we examine the requirements to achieve that vision
Finally, we bring money into the conversation to evaluate options
This sequence keeps clients anchored in their deepest values and hopes. It prevents money fears or limiting beliefs from shutting down their dreams prematurely. By the final step, they feel expanded and empowered to find a way forward.
These three lessons have been game-changers for my clients in creating a more intentional, fulfilled relationship with money. I hope they help you experience more clarity, confidence, and alignment on your own financial journey.
