Remote-working, techy dad of 3 who’s got ADHD. Wordsmith extraordinaire with a creative flair.

The other day I saw someone say the following on Twitter:

Any parents out here who constantly remind themselves to not compare with other non-parents on Twitter? We have very diff schedule, capacity, and energy level.

First: Yes, I understand that people can have busy lives even if they don't have kids. I'm speaking in general here, about people who only have themselves to care for (no family members, for example).

There's Simply No Comparison, Parents

As a parent, you don't have every evening and entire weekends to yourself. Heck, even when kids are in school it's not as if all child-related responsibilities disappear.

Don't hold yourself to the standard of someone who has a TON more time on their hands. You're simply being unfair to yourself. And you'll burn out trying to keep up.

If You Don't Have Kids...

Honestly, as successful as you think you are, just realize that you have an immense advantage over someone who may have 20% of the time you do, to work on their various creative endeavours.

Don't look down on someone with kids and say "why can't you just get up at 5am, write for 4 hours, post on social media for the next hour, then work on your eBook, course, newsletter, and podcast for 3 hours after that".

It doesn't work that way. If you plan on having kids, and you wanna be a half-way decent parent, your life will have to change as well.

So enjoy it while it lasts :) And parents, forget about keeping up with kidless creators. Heck, your own children may soon be competing with you!
