What I Learned from 500 Pushups (and David Goggins)

I did 500 push-ups while listening to David Goggins.

It was a mental challenge for me, as well as a physical one, and by applying the lessons of David Goggins, I went through it and learned some lessons on how to become more disciplined.

Here's what I learned:

Discipline has nothing to do with motivation. Discipline is doing something when you don't want to do it. That's it, if want to do something hard, that's not discipline.

I like doing push-ups, it didn't take discipline to start the challenge. I hate to do nothing but push-ups for 2 hours, it took discipline to keep going.

Discipline is a muscle in your brain. You can train your discipline. If you regularly do the things you don't want to do, you will become more disciplined. If you don't, you will lose your ability to stay disciplined.

You either use it or you lose it.

There are two voices in your head. One will tell you to stop. You can't do it. 250 pushups are enough. You can stop her.

The second voice is the one you create, it will suppress the first voice. You are disciplined. You can do it. You can do 500 push ups.

If you want to be disciplined, listen to the second voice!
