How I wrote this essay in 14 minutes
Nils Liedlich

I'll be blunt: I had a bunch of stuff to do today, and my sacred hours were blocked by work. I decided to use some tools to overcome the procrastination and to write the essay as quickly as possible.

Gamification

I set a 15 minute countdown and started writing. I did not stop, I just let the words flow. Gamification is a great tool for overcoming obstacles to gamify something is to turn a activity or task into a game. For instance, I choose to make writing this essay a game to challenge myself. It can be used to encourage customers to shop more, by turning your company's loyalty program into a leader board, for example. Or you may want to entice customers to earn rewards for referrals, like Scrintal's referral program does.

Set boundaries

Another effective method of killing procrastination and getting sh*t done is to set boundaries. As many already do, setting "sacred hours" has the two benefits of 1) getting consistent and 2) setting a time boundary for your writing.

80% Execution 20% Skill

When I feel like being a perfectionist, I remember what the CEO of the start-up I work for once told me: it's 80% execution, only 20% skill. I believe in the statement. After all, there are billions of people with exceptional skills, but only a few get the most of their own skills.

I did the very same with this essay. The copy was written in 12 minutes, the editing took me 2. Now I ask you: Get sh*t done!
