I try to read diverse books.
Reading diverse, even contrary ideological material is a foundational part of having a perpetual growth mindset.
A recent conversation where someone mentioned that I should give sales a try. happened to coincide with finishing my last book, Mindset: The New Psychology of Success by Carol Dweck.
I was reviewing year end book lists the day after Christmas for something new.
I stumbled on The Unsold Mindset by Colin Coggins, Garrett Brown from one such list.
I didn’t really want to read another mindset book, but this part of the book description caught my attention.
”But there’s a disconnect between who we think good salespeople are and who they actually are. In any room, they’re not the most self-confident, they’re the most self-aware. They’re not the most sociable, they’re the most socially aware. And they don’t succeed in spite of obstacles, they succeed because of obstacles.”
Less than 2 weeks later, I’m done and will be adding this book to the list of books to revisit at least once a year.
Every chapter of this book resonated deeply with how I’ve previously thought about sales and has fundamentally changed how I think about myself in the context of selling in the traditional sense and in general.
I feel more confident in my pathological optimism, curiosity, asking more questions and really caring to dig in. The mindset, frameworks and tactics discussed on this book have opened my eyes to a whole set of alternatives frames of mind for me.
Really looking forward to growing into an Unsold Mindset in 2024. 🧠🥳
