What if I told you that the qualities you admire in your role models already exist within you and are longing to be nurtured?
If you subscribe to the notion that your reality is nothing but a projection of your mind, this becomes obvious. Your mind takes in sensory information and makes meaning out of it. The people that inspire you most are your spirit's way of communicating to you: (1) what your core values are; (2) parts of yourself you are neglecting; (3) your potential.
One of my favorite exercises to put this into practice:
Think of one someone in your field who you admire. List out what you believe to be their key attributes, behaviors, motivations, and impact
Write a narrative about them. For example: X is [attribute]. They demonstrate [this attribute] in XYZ ways. They are driven by [motivations]. They impact [XYZ group of people] by [behavior]
Write the narrative again, using the same attributes, motivations, and behaviors, but this time, replace your role model's name with "I." For example: I am [attribute]. I demonstrate [this attribute] in XYZ ways. I am driven by motivations]. I impact [XYZ group of people] by [behavior]. This is a starting point for your personal vision statement
Read your statement about yourself out loud and notice where you feel (1) the most alignment; (2) the most resistance. Reflect on the actions you can take to make your statement come to life and feel even more "real" and address the resistance
Above all, know that admiration does not come out of nowhere. Admiration is your spirit's way of showing you what is possible for you.
