On Jan 16th 2024, my wife had a 20 hour drive ahead of her with rain, sleet, and snow on the forecast for the second day of driving.
She had to choose between pushing hard the first day or not. She decided (with strong influence from her family) not to push it and only do 14 hours the first day. She thinks she made the wrong decision.
I don't believe there are wrong decisions.
It was a two day drive and she hit snow, sleet and ice on the second day. She stopped her drive at 14hrs the first day and didn't continue driving till 1am. Her frustration with the consequences made sense, because the second day of driving sucked for her, and she felt like she'd made the wrong decision.
But here's a secret, there are no right or wrong decisions. Just decisions and consequences.
It's easy to look at the consequences of a decision and see that they suck. And it's natural to assume that the other choice may have been better, but in truth, we'll never know how much better or worse the consequences of the other choice might've been.
She might've driven till 1am, been fine, and saved hours the next day. Or, she might've gotten tired and something drastically worse could've happened. We'll never know.
So don't lament the choices you didn't make. Make your choice. Deal with the consequences. There is no right or wrong.
