Do you easily get unmotivated and struggle to start?

If yes, chances are that you unconsciously wish for a motivational boost. You want to sense the feeling of inspiration and "I can do this". You root for tailwinds, green lights, and crowds cheering you up.

Although noble in theory, this mindset is a debilitating crutch in practice.

Because if you do a certain activity for a long time, there will be days when you feel like quitting. There will be days in which the last thing you want to do is show up. Motivation comes and goes. As Chuck Close says, "Inspiration is for amateurs".

But if you can show up, regardless of how lethargic or anxious you feel, everything changes.

You become more secure and personally antifragile

Most often, you can achieve great things despite a slow start, because you will gain momentum. After 15 minutes of pure dizziness, you will build a snowball effect based on the effort you have put in.

In addition, you have expanded your comfort zone. You are secure that you can perform well whenever you are drowsy because you have done it before. Thus, you do not need to rely on your environment as much.

By having the courage to feel the resistance and act anyway, you will surpass anyone else stuck in their comfort zones.

You will feel even better afterward

Whenever you feel motivated, the molecule dopamine is strong in your brain. However, there exists a "pleasure-pain" balance in which you will feel somewhat terrible after feeling good. If dopamine is high, it will go below baseline afterward, the main reason behind addictions, post-partum depression, and being underwhelmed by success.

But this pleasure-pain balance also works in reverse. If you feel unmotivated and go anyway, your dopamine level with go from low to high, which is why cold showers produce a euphoric effect afterward.

Therefore, the more terrible you feel, the more you can trust that you will feel immense pleasure afterward. Nothing can stop you.

So get started right now!
