Two days ago, many of you were interested in Wu Wei and doing nothing.
Here is one tip that will make this practice a whole lot easier (and enjoyable) 👇
At first, it might sound ridiculous; why would anyone need advice on doing nothing?
However, if you have tried it for 15 minutes straight, you know it can be challenging first. Frequent interruptions pop up, such as
Thoughts
Negative feelings
Urges
Tensions
Unease
Fatigue
Pain
Discomfort
Itchiness
Boredom
For most people, these interruptions are so disturbing that they would rather shock themselves. Doing nothing is not so easy after all.
It does not have to be this way, fortunately. As I've practiced stillness my whole life, there is one mindset shift that makes the experience enjoyable. Once you grasp it, doing nothing will be very easy, and you will have no problem falling asleep:
"Accept everything you feel right now as if you have looked forward to it your whole life"
Whatever you feel is highly beneficial. It is only when you resist, deny or even forget how you feel that the tensions build up.
The pain you feel in your temples? See it as a particularly strong massage that you paid for.
The unease you feel in your feet? Enjoy the tickling.
The heaviness you feel in your chest? Go deeper into it and find peace.
Involuntary thoughts are a sign of not feeling your body enough
Whenever you find yourself immersed in thought, go back to what you feel in your body right now. This will stop thoughts from arising, even negative ones. In 99% of cases, this thought arrived because of tension in your body somewhere. Focusing on your breath will also give you the same effect.
Of course, you might want to put a timer beforehand if you fall asleep.
The underlying formula behind Wu Wei:
More acceptance of this moment = More attention = More awareness (consciousness) = More rest (peace) = More groundedness (healing) = More control of your life.
All of these are interlinked so that one will affect all the others.
So whenever you find yourself distracted, tense, or absent, remember this formula above. You will easily see the power of Wu Wei.
Plus, the highly enjoyable and healing experience of doing absolutely nothing.
