Why do you dress differently, when you know someone might visit you today?
There is a good chance someone is visiting your Twitter 'home' right now.
What is the first thing they will see? Your bio and one Tweet. So dress up!
A pinned Tweet stays on top of your profile and as such, is your go-to outfit. The problem is that Twitter introduced this feature in 2014, and actionable advice on how to use it is hard to find today.
Luckily Josh Spector collected 23 examples from top creators, giving me 7 ideas.
7 ideas for using pinned Tweets effectively
Lazy but powerful. 'These are my top 10 tweets of 2021,' followed by a thread. Repeat in 1 year.
Enable a community. 'If you are Y, have X followers, and are interested in Z, say hi and tell us about yourself.' Then react to everyone, sharing your work.
Generous selling. 'Struggling with X? Here's a free newsletter/book/course.' Then: 'Did you like it? Consider signing up for...'
Library building. 'Interested in X? I have been writing about it for years. Here's a threat that'll give you everything you need.' Keep adding to that thread.
Making a promise. 'Interested in Y? For X days/weeks I will write about Y, helping you to Z. Start below and follow me to stay up to date.'
Ask a question. 'Who inspired you to X?' This should be connected to your interests. React to everyone, and share your ideas.
Supercharge your bio. 'Over the past X years, I've helped build Y, adopted by Z amount of people/professionals. This is where I share all my key insights.'
A magic trick that combines with any of the above, is to add a compelling visual.
