The day before the first Covid-19 lockdown started in the UK we brought home our rescue Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Roxy. I had been feeling the loss of our previous dog who had died not long before and had started to look on the Dogs Trust website.
I convinced my partner that we should go and have a look at the available dogs and we saw Roxy at the Leeds shelter. We took her out for a walk on the big field they have and she was lovely. She wasn't nervous with us and was clearly popular with the staff there as they all spoke to her as we walked through.
We spent a while walking her around the grass, decided that she had a lovely nature and that we would apply to adopt her. We collected her the following week and brought her home
She has a long term skin problem and recurrent ear infections so we are regulars at the vet. We also believe that she was used to produce lots of puppies in a puppy farm situation.
We have now had her for nearly three years and she has been an absolute joy. She is calm and loving and it is fantastic to see her relaxing and doing her own thing knowing that she spent a lot of her previous life pregnant and nursing.
She comes most places with us. When we visit family we stay in a dog friendly hotel. We have had two camper van holidays which she really enjoyed.
Today we have been for a run around Poundbury field and for drinks in the dog friendly cafe, now she is asleep on my feet.
