There are a lot of book I read that involve the process of content creation and copywriting. And I have read a lot of them.

But the best book that caught my attention was "The Laws Of Creativity" by Joey Cofone. I first encountered Cofone on The Futur podcast and was impressed by his personality and insights

However I never got to reading his book (since I am a hoarder of books). When I started reading this book, I was pleasantly surprised I couldn't put this book down.

It focuses on different laws on the basis of creativity. And it made rethink and change my mindset on how the process of how I do things.

Here are a few reasons why:

You have the right to challenge assumptions

In one of the chapters it focuses on the Law of Disruption. When it talks about the ability to challenge the assumptions and laws that were put in place before our time.

There was one example he presented that stood out to me which was The Gordian Knot.

According to the story, an intricate knot was tied to an ox-cart in the city of Gordium, with a prophecy that whoever could untie it would rule all of Asia.

For centuries, no one could untangle the knot. Then, in 333 BC, Alexander the Great approached the challenge. When traditional methods failed, he solved the problem in an unexpected way - he simply cut the knot in half with his sword.

The assumption was the knot needed to be untied in the same way we untie a shoe.

That's how Alexander the Great was able to succeed, because he thought outside the box.

Even though this law can be great, Joey puts in a caveat where he states don't go looking to change something for the sake of changing something. Just be mindful because your biases can get in the way. And you could be spending a lot of time that is later just wasted effort.

Creativity is not about creating - it is about combining

The next law that I found intriguing was the Law of Combination. It is the law of combining two pre-existing concepts in order to form a new concept.

In Joey's example he talks about the history of currency. We first started through the barter system, then transferred to gold then to currency. In recent years, Bitcoin was invested with a numerous amount of other forms of cryptocurrencies.

However, cryptocurrencies isn't a new invention is a digitized version of gold. It is combining two existing concepts to provide a new concept.

For me when I was younger I made the assumption that creativity is be original. However, I don't that is the case. Many great ideas are just old ideas mixed together in a new way.

Peel the Onion

The Law of Precision really caught my attention. It's all about getting to the core of a problem.

Think of it like peeling an onion. You keep removing layers until you get to the center. In this case, you're peeling away all the extra stuff around a problem until you're left with one key question.

When you find and answer that one question, you've solved the real issue at the heart of the problem.

It's about cutting through the clutter to find what really matters.

In the book, it provides an example of how Henry Ford brought Model T into the world. And he started with just one question.

How can we make travel easier?

Before cars, people relied on horses for travel. This came with many challenges:

Horses needed food and shelter
They required care when sick
Lots of equipment was needed for travel

Cars solved many of these problems. Sure, cars have their own issues, but they were a big step forward.The key here is asking the right question.

Instead of "How do we make horses better?", Ford asked "How can we make travel easier?". This led to a whole new way of thinking.

By focusing on the core problem - easier travel - rather than improving the existing solution, Ford opened the door to a revolutionary idea.

"The Laws of Creativity" expanded my understanding of creativity in ways I never expected. It helped me develop a creative muscle I didn't even know needed exercise.

For anyone interested in unlocking their creative potential, this book is a must-read. Joey Cofone breaks down creativity into practical, actionable insights that can transform how you approach problems and generate ideas.
