We are in the last week of 2022, What a year! If you are reading this article, no matter your current situation professionally, I congratulate you for making it this far. It was never easy but here we are. 12 months of hard work is a huge effort for everyone. This is not only for people who have been working on their startups or working in other companies but also for people who have been studying hard or looking for jobs. Your effort will pay off one day.

I know most of you have been on vacation, and to be specific, today I am here to tell you that you are doing exactly the right thing and I want to encourage you to take it seriously. I would like to ask you for 2 minutes to discuss something that most people in the field don’t talk about.

To work in startups or in any other tech company requires working very hard. In those fields we deal mostly with uncertainties, we spend time analyzing the competition and trying to beat it, winning customers, building an outstanding product, maintaining the team's health, setting ambitious goals and so many other things. Working in such a challenging environment for 12 months is not easy and not everyone manages to do it.

From my experience, I have realized that for people who work in such an environment or in a similar one, resting is as important as working hard. You might be wondering how, I will only share the main importance of resting, don’t want to take all your time. The main reason for resting is that resting is the main source of inspiration. This is how resting can be key to your career and your startup.

Inspiration

The word “Inspiration” is a huge one. When I say that something inspires me, it means that thing is a source of ideas for me. Let me explain how resting is as important as working hard.

Have you ever spent 3 or 5 consecutive months working hard to the point you feel stuck in your mind that no new idea comes up into your mind? Yes, that’s normal, it is a proven science, a stressed and tired mind is never a source of good ideas but misunderstanding and anxiety. Resting offers a person an opportunity to refresh. And it's in resting that most people get their innovative ideas.

If Resting can lead to new innovative ideas, Working will help you implement them. They depend on each other, innovative ideas are nothing if they are not executed, the same as executing bad ideas. That’s why I insist on people taking their vacations so seriously.

I always tell bosses who don’t give their employees time to rest, that their actions are more harmful to their companies than their employees. If you understand the importance of resting, you can even send them on vacations without them asking.

Without taking too much time from you, I am just wishing you a happy new year of 2023, may it become your best year professionally.
