30 days ago, I signed up for Dickie Bush & Nicolas Cole's cohort-based course, Ship 30 for 30.
When I started this journey, I wanted 3 things:
express myself better through writing
have a platform to build from
find an audience
I've achieved the first 2 with shipping 30 essays.
And made a start with 3, by engaging with readers during these past 30 days. Not too shabby for a beginner.
Writing for 30 days has also brought some useful insights:
1. Identity is tied to the effort you put in
The biggest change has been to my identity. The friction generated from the effort of shipping for 30 days has changed how I see myself.
I am no longer a none-writer. I am a Digital Writer.
And as how I see myself changes - more things are becoming possible.
I plan to continue to writing daily.
2. Focus shifts as you write
The more I write, the more ordered and more conscious my thinking has become.
I'm also becoming more discerning with my writing - I notice more flaws in my writing & in others.
I was amused to find my writing now bleeding into the conversations that I have
3. Writing sets you up for Other Things
I now want to apply my writing to a productive end.
Find and build an audience that I can help
Learn from them.
Then provide something of value that makes a difference
I'd like to do this in small sprints, so I can actually deliver a change
All of this has occurred because I did something crazy - signing up for Ship 30 for 30.
If you have been thinking about getting started writing online too, let me know. I'm happy to share more about the experience and what I learned.
