#216. 3 Reasons Why It's Okay to Be Labeled as a Kuripot (Even If You're Not)
by Kristoffer Jan Notario (@RatRaceRunning)

Being labeled as a kuripot usually has a negative connotation.

Oftentimes, people are called kuripot or stingy when they are actually masinop or frugal. It's understandable because kuripot and masinop involve withholding to spend money, with a major difference - the intent. Real kuripot people wouldn't bat an eye unless they could get something from you, while a masinop knows when and where to spend.

So, if you're being labeled as a kuripot, don't worry. There are benefits to it.

#1. People don't approach you for loans.

After saying no to borrowers a couple of times, they will stop asking for more loans.

However, as a result, they may also tell other people that you are a kuripot. The good thing about this is that once you've been labeled as a kuripot, fewer people will ask to borrow money from you, which saves you from headaches from serial debtors.

Sometimes, it's much better to have this label if it can protect you from people who love taking advantage.

#2. You'll have better control over your budget.

Since fewer people will try to approach you with money, you will have better control over your budget.

Some people don't like disappointing others, so they will give in to peer pressure and spend more than they can. On the other hand, by being labeled as a kuripot, you have your full budget ready to be allocated.

Remember, you don't need to please everyone, especially to avoid taking on an inconsistent label.

#3. The label doesn't define you.

Being labeled as a kuripot is just that - a label. It doesn't define you.

Typically, the people who will label you as such had a previous encounter with you, usually with loans, but you turned them down. However, if you know that you wouldn't think twice to lend or give money to those in need, you're not a kuripot. Don't worry. Your real friends will know the difference.

There are too many labels thrown around today, including kuripot. However, if you know your principles, this derogatory term will not hold water.
